Every year, the month of October is marked by’October Rose, a national campaign that raises awareness about the fight against breast cancer.
This mobilization, echoed throughout France, highlights the crucial importance of screening and prevention. It also brings together a wide-ranging solidarity movement through marches, sporting and cultural events, and fundraising drives to support medical research.
Breast cancer remains the most common cancer among women today. In France, 1 in 8 women will be affected in their lifetime. Every year, more than 60,000 new cases are diagnosed and approximately 12,000 deaths are recorded. 8 out of 10 cases occur after the age of 50, making regular screening from this age an essential tool for detecting the disease as early as possible. When identified early, survival rate exceeds 90 %, This proves the effectiveness of prevention and awareness-raising.
But October Rose is not just about numbers. It is first and foremost a month of Collective mobilization and solidarity. Talking about screening around you, relaying prevention messages, supporting associations or participating in organized events are all actions that count. Each action contributes to breaking taboos, strengthening information and supporting those affected by the disease, directly or indirectly.
